Back to TopCourtney Schrof
Salon and Guest Relations Manager
Courtney Schrof wanted to go into the health care field because of her desire to make people feel better. When her mother purchased Colors in April 2003 and persuaded her daughter to temporarily run the front desk, a whole new world of opportunity unfolded and by December Courtney had become full time salon manager.
Behind the lovable face and effervescent personality is a woman with a mission, managing and scheduling staff, booking clients and special events and ordering the high performance products used in the salon. Courtney loves the company's green philosophy and the opportunity to create a wonderful customer experience. "We have seniors who arrive 30 minutes ahead of schedule for their Friday morning appointments," she smiles, "just because they like to come here and visit over coffee."
Hair care may have replaced health care the opportunity to brighten daily lives has not been overshadowed. "It's a great feeling," she says.

When Krista Moroz was a little girl playing hairdresser in her aunt's basement salon, she remembers one golden rule…don't touch the scissors! Ironically, the once forbidden fruits have become the tools of her trade and childhood play has become a career.
Krista joined the Colors family at its inception in 2003. As Master Stylist she provides a variety of services for men, women and children from wash and blow dry to cutting-edge cuts and colors.
She graduated from Winnipeg Technical College in 2000 but she broke into the business at the age of 13, assisting her aunt, Joanne Rempel, in local salons. Over the years, that mentorship has offered valuable lessons, including learning the importance of an optimistic attitude, creative thinking and positive client interaction.
"One bride enjoyed her salon experience at Colors so much she still drops by for coffee," Krista says. "There's a special relationship set up between hairdresser and client. It's all based on trust."

Whether you're a bride-to-be or a Boomer re-entering the work force, Colleen Lamirande leaves clients feeling beautiful inside and out. After studying business in university and five year stint in retail, she rekindled an old flame for the beauty industry and graduated from Capelli Academy. "When I was younger, I worked as a Saturday assistant in a hair salon for three years," says Colleen, who wanted to resume the creative pleasure of working with her hands.
She joined the Colors' family in the summer of 2010, and provides a variety of services for men and women from blow dry and styling to interpreting the latest trends in cuts and colors.
Colleen uses hair as a tool for transformation but she acknowledges that it's not just the clients who leave feeling fulfilled. "One of my favourite things is the look on a client's face when I show them how nice they can look by changing their hair style. It's a great feeling for me, too."
For an appointment with Colleen call 204-477-9723.
Back to TopMelissa Brick is no stranger to the hair industry. Her aunt and her sister are both in the business so when it came time to choosing a career, Melissa knew exactly what she wanted to do. She was only 14 when she started as her aunt's assistant at a local salon and by the time she graduated from high school she had received her hair dressing license from Winnipeg South Technical School. Now, with 3,000 hours of apprenticeship behind her, she's able to apply her talents and her creativity in an industry that she views as full of potential and growth.
"I see people becoming more adventurous with styles and color," says Melissa, who serves a variety of clients but loves the challenges of edgy, inspired colors and cuts. As trends change and the appetite for diverse styles increases, Melissa will be ready and waiting, eager to create the next generation of great hair.

Back to TopMonique Degagne was immersed in the financial world before she switched careers and pursued her long-time dream of working in hair design. "It's something I've always wanted to do," says the graduate of the Capelli Hair Academy who joined Colors in January 2011.
With a solid background in customer service, Monique believes that the salon's commitment to clients makes it the perfect place for her to hone her craft and build her career. "The basics of good service are the same no matter what the industry," she says. "People want professionalism, confidence, product knowledge and good communication skills."
She also notes that while clients are becoming more knowledgeable about choosing professional products to duplicate their styles at home, there's nothing like the salon experience to make you feel pampered. "Colors is very inviting," she says. "Clients leave feeling great."

Back to TopJanessa Kehler took her training through Steinbach Regional High School and graduated with distinction in June 2011 with a major in hair styling and a minor in nail technology. "When I was young I wanted to be everything from a chef to a mechanic," she smiles, but an obsession with salon shows on television led to an interest in the beauty industry and the potential for a fulfilling career.
She began apprenticing with Colors in August 2011 and the salon has become an ideal workplace to practice her craft. Whether she's taking advanced classes in cutting and styling or learning the latest tricks and techniques from mentor Joanne Rempel, Janessa's childhood passion has never faded.
"This is more than work," she says. "I feel like I belong."

Back to TopLucy Williams couldn't believe her luck when she joined Colors in September 2011. It's not just the salon's green philosophy and its inviting attitude, says the recent Hairstyling graduate of Winnipeg Technical College. Colors embraces continuing education and mentorship, critical in an industry that is always changing.
Lucy's love affair with hair began in childhood when her five brothers and sisters let her practice on their locks. "I remember when I was eight years old," she recalls. "I was braiding my sister's hair and I just knew this work would be a part of my future."
And for the committed and enthusiastic stylist, that future looks promising. "I can make people feel beautiful inside and out," says Lucy. "That's a very satisfying feeling."

Jordan Rempel has been working in the family business since its inception and began formal training in esthetics at Capelli Academy in Winnipeg in April 2009. The University of Winnipeg Collegiate grad who has her eye on a future in chiropractic medicine, believes Colors offers the perfect opportunity to marry her interests in natural wellness and beauty.
"People think about beauty but they often forget the importance of good health for skin and nails," she says, adding that her education provides a balance of theory and practicum – from learning the foundations of nail health, to understanding the fundamentals of skin care such as analysis and treatment of skin conditions and daily maintenance.
And it isn't just women who want to feel attractive and healthy, she says. "I have male clients and they love the services just as much as women - sometimes even more!"

Back to TopGinelle Charr joined the Colors team in May 2011 as an esthetician specializing in synthetic lash extensions. What began as a luxury service for some has become an essential beauty routine for many says Ginelle, whose clients include women who want to augment thinning lashes, career women who want to add drama to their look or new moms who don't have time for mascara and makeup.
The energetic and engaging graduate of Capelli Academy in Winnipeg began her career at a local spa and at Hecla Island Resort where guests were eager to soak up the pleasures of body treatments and relaxation massage.
"My work is all about touch," she says, whether is manicures, pedicures, waxing or lashes. "Nurturing relationships with clients and making them feel comfortable is an important part of the service," she adds. "And Colors is so welcoming. Customers may come to the salon in a bad mood but they leave feeling wonderful."

Back to TopCherry Vicente came to the Colors salon in November 2011 as a graduate of Blanche Macdonald Centre in Vancouver, the country's leading school in makeup, fashion, hair and esthetics.
After an intensive 11 month course in all aspects of makeup artistry, the native Winnipegger honed her makeup skills through editorial shoots for magazines, as well as short films, special effects makeup, fashion shows and bridal.
"I like enhancing something just by adding colour, or manipulating with highlights and shading," she says. "Something as simple as eye shadow can create an instant eye lift."
Cherry's interest in dramatic makeup is rooted in childhood. While other girls played dress-up with blush and lipstick, she was creating fake bruises and experimenting with theatre makeup for the stage.
"When I started training I never thought about working in a salon but I love it," she acknowledges. "It's more than changing a person's look. It's changing the way they see and feel about themselves."
For a booking with Cherry call 477-9723.
Back to TopKaren Kirkpatrick
Registered Massage Therapist
Karen Kirkpatrick graduated from the Massage Therapy College of Manitoba, and after honing her craft at several local clinics, joined Colors in the fall of 2010. "I knew I wanted to be in the health field," says Karen, whose intensive 2200-hour diploma program covered a wide spectrum of practicum and theory, from courses on anatomy and physiology to hands-on training in relaxation massage and deep remedial massage.
Massage can be life-altering she notes, citing a woman who came to her with lower back pain who had sought help from other disciplines like chiropractic and physiotherapy. Through muscle balancing and a series of home exercises, the client became virtually pain free.
Karen uses the power of touch in a variety of applications - from treating sprains, strains and athletic injuries to pre-and post-operative massage - but advises that massage therapy can also be preventative. "Regular ongoing massage is important for a balanced mind and body," she says, "and for overall wellness."
For a booking with Karen call 204-477-9723.
Back to TopKim Lagimodiere
Master Stylist
Kim Lagimodiere understands the demands of running a successful salon. The Marvel graduate owned her own business for more than 17 years before coming to Colors in 2004.
"The move couldn't have been easier," she smiles, noting that she was ready to set aside accounts and scheduling to concentrate her creative talents more fully on hair. The transition was just as easy for her clients who now benefit from Kim's easy manner and polished professionalism in the nurturing atmosphere of the Colors salon.
Many regulars have become more than customers; they have become friends. "I know about their lives and they know about mine," she says. "I have a number of ladies who still come in once a week and I just love making them feel better."

Back to TopMarcia Romaniuk
Master Stylist
Marcia Romaniuk brings more than 30 years experience to the Colors' team. She studied cosmetology at Red River Community College but admits her original interest was in cutting men's hair. "As an 18-year old, I thought it would be a great way to meet guys," she recalls, "but unfortunately the course was full…of men!" Luckily, there was an opening on the women's side and after training she began to hone her craft at local salons. That's where she met now Colors' owner Joanne Rempel and the young stylists eventually joined forces with a third colleague to create Associate Hair Designers. Their salon was a successful and thriving business that evolved over the course of their 14-year partnership. After ten years working from her home-based salon, Marcia was approached by Joanne to work together again and she joined the Colors' family in 2006.
The talented Master Stylist with a long and loyal client list still finds opportunities to grow and learn. "You learn from other people in the shop," she says. "I am always inspired by their enthusiasm."
For a booking with Marcia call 204-477-9723.
When Ivona Siwanicz was a young girl she would take her cousins into the bathroom and practice applying make-up with her aunt's samples of Avon.
That early passion has become her profession and the talented esthetician provides a range of services from make-up and waxing to manicures, pedicures and gel nails.
"Ninety-nine per cent of my business is gel nails," says Ivona, who believes they are a healthier alternative to acrylics. "Gel nails are low maintenance, they look natural, they last longer, and your own nails can breathe through the product," she says.
Ivona studied at Academy of Cosmetology and Estherics in Halifax, and returned to Winnipeg to work at various salons, growing her clientele and her skill set. After a five year stint in her home salon, she was ready for a new challenge and a new home for loyal clients. Several suggested that she try Colors.
"It's the perfect fit. I felt at home right away," she says.
For a gel nail appointment with Ivona call 204-477-9723.
